Picturesque Places for Photography in Peterborough | Calton Photography | Tips

I've lived in Peterborough all of my life and I wanted to share with you some beautiful places I've found that are great for photography of all sorts. Some of them are quiet, making it easy to direct a shoot, some are plain beautiful and in some places you have to get quite creative!

Ferry Meadows

This is where I go most regularly for shoots. It's easy to get to for everyone in Peterborough. It's beautiful. Over the years I've come to find the best quieter shots, where the sun sets etc.

Orton Mere

Not far from ferry meadows we have Orton Mere. It's different. It's based around the train tracks which bring a new dimension to your landscape photography. It's also where the lock is, so there are plenty of boats too.

Thorpe Meadows

A third aspect of Nene Park Trust is Thorpe Meadows, sometimes known as The Boating Lake as it's home to the Peterborough Rowing Club. The sun rises and sets either side of the rowing lake and it's beautifully still and vibrant. Plus, after your shoot you can sit in the beer garden of The Boat House pub.

Milton Ferry Bridge

This is the castor entrance to Ferry Meadows which tends to be quieter and has a lovely bridge feature that breaks up the greenery. It's also stunning at sunset as it filters through the bridge arches on its way down.

Crown Lakes

Farcet holds the hidden gem of Crown Lakes. It's another gorgeous spot for outdoor photoshoots, landscape photography or nature photography. Perfect for a dog walk too!

The Embankment

Here's a place that is usually buzzing with people on a warm day. Located in the heart of Peterborough it's home to Charters Bar, The Key Theatre & The Lido. What I like the most is the billowing willow trees that run along its edge.

Peterborough Cathedral & Town Centre

For those who love dramatic architecture and intricate buildings this is the place to capture. The town centre on a bright day can bring all sorts of diversity and often has many festivals, my favourite of which is the Italian festival. I remember one time after the Italian festival we were walking through town about 1am on our way home from some drinks at what used to be Puzzles and saw older Italian couples dancing away in the town square - it was really something.

Blossom

This isn't specific to Peterborough I'm sure but there are some incredible place that bloom an abundance of blossom which is ideal for photoshoots. Who's in for a Blossom Shoot this year?

Underpasses

If you're more of an urban, street photographer there are several pieces of artwork displayed at underpasses around Peterborough. There's one dedicated to Louis Smith and Nick Dempsey, the olympians from P'boro in Hampton. A more recent mural is one to combat racism.

Arts Against Racism mural at Taverners Road underpass at Bourges Boulevard EMN-200306-131920009

I hope this has helped, especially if you're stuck for new places to go! Feel free to suggest some others in the comments too, the more the better!
