So, I had a particularly upsetting time with photography in the summer which could've made me give up, and I very nearly did. However, I ignored my doubts, telling them "Silencio Bruno" and thought I'm gonna shoot what I truly LOVE, what I'm truly feeling.
September comes, Autumn approaches, and I'm thinking "I really need to do something to embrace this time of year" because I personally love it, so it will come through in my photos.
So I did.
It started with a goal. My target was to book in 8 people for an autumnal shoot; in theory, one every weekend for October & November. I spent an evening or two drafting up a plan and researching how to run a successful marketing campaign. It got me very excited, even though I thought it might be a little ambitious. But fuelled by the frustrations from summer I was a woman on a mission. I created adverts for social media and flyers. My website was updated to reflect what I was planning on doing. I set up a mailing list via social media to build some excitement and notified those who wanted to be notified first. I repeatedly posted on all social media platforms to ensure the word was out there.
It worked a little bit. I got two bookings. I was thrilled. 1/4 of my goal achieved.
I focused on that part, the part where I actually did get 2 families interested in what I was doing and carried on. 4 more people booked in achieving 75% of my goal. I was thrilled!
I planned out a style guide, to help with any outfit queries that people might have, drafted emails and prepared email headers. I scouted a location and created maps so it was easy to find. There was a lot of behind the scenes work prior to the shoot.
Not only did I book in 6 people/families, I had 4 of them booked on the same day: my first every day of Mini Sessions. Thankfully, I employed my wonderfully willing sister to help me to run the day and it went SO smoothly, I could have cried. It was so much fun, we had music on, which I'd carefully selected for the right vibe. We had different things for different families too. So for example, my little cousin Emilio was coming, so I brought along my football.
I also brought a stool along - for two reasons: 1) so the parents could sit down with their children as we were just in a field and 2) because one of my clients uses a wheelchair most of the time and I wondered if he would've preferred that to his chair going across all the grass and leaves - it worked SO well:
So, let me show you some photos - as I know that's why you're really here!
Mabel
Mabel approached me for an autumnal shoot simply with her. It was brilliant as I've not done many of these, let alone with someone I've not met before. I had to get my creative brain on as it posed a new challenge for me.
We got the tunes on, the lighting was just INCREDIBLE and we went for it:
El, Jo, Emilio & Lucia
My Uncle's wonderful family came along for a shoot and were just brilliant. Here's some of my favourites:
Philip & Tracey
34 years of marriage celebrated with their family and documented through photos. What a wonderful shoot this was.
Rhys, Chloe & Maisie
Funnily enough, Rhys and his family already had the final slot of the day booked in and his sister had booked the one prior! So you may notice these three in the previous shoot as well!
I hope you like the photos we took and get a feel for how it went. I was on such a high after these for days.
I think that's my sign to do more Mini Sessions - don't you think?
Meg x
