Some people, like my husband, thought engagement photos were a total waste of time! So unfortunately, we didn’t have any taken before our wedding! Not that I’m bitter or anything... ANYWAY, I can easily give you 8 reasons why engagement photos ARE beneficial for you soon to be newlyweds!
GETTING USED TO THE CAMERA
Firstly, most people have only ever had formal photos for either the end of a school year or maybe some family photos at Olan Mills back in the day right? So in general, they are not looking forward to having their photo taken or may feel a bit uncomfortable at the thought of it. Especially as we’re not all natural models either! So an engagement photo shoot enables you to get used to a camera before the big day – hopefully stopping any potential worries about having a camera on you all day.
A PRACTICE RUN FOR THE BIG DAY
In a way it is kind of like a practice run for the big day as some of the photographs will be similar in the way that they are to represent you two and an important moment in your life. During an engagement photo session you can get used to having a photo as a couple, and being cute for the day!
GET TO KNOW YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER BETTER
This also gives you a chance to either meet, or get to know better, your photographer. It is a great opportunity to see how you feel with them taking your photos. Do they make you feel at ease? Do you like how they guide you for your photos? This is so important because on your wedding day you need to feel comfortable with your photographer. So definitely keep that in mind when you meet your photographer and go with your gut feeling.
SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE IN YOUR LIVES
Not only are these photos nice to keep, they are actually documenting a very significant time in your relationship! Getting engaged is a huge milestone and something you want to remember perfectly! Photographing this significant time is a great way to capture these happy month during which is a potentially stressful time leading up to your wedding.
WHAT CAN I USE THESE PHOTOS FOR?
Obviously, these are nice to keep for memory sake, however if you are benefit-driven like me and only invest in something that is useful, here are some ideas on how you could use these photos:
- You could use them to personalise your Save the Date cards or Wedding Invites
- If you have a wedding day website, which is very popular nowadays, you could use your engagement photos as the forefront on your website.
- You could have them printed for display in your home
- If you are quite creative you could use them for photo albums or scrapbooks
- It could be a nice update to your profile photo on Facebook too ☺
TIME TOGETHER AS A COUPLE
Time goes so fast these days. It’s Monday, which drags like anything, but then before you know it it’s Friday and often there is little time to spend quality time together as a couple. This is especially true in the months leading up to your wedding day. It is such a busy time for a couple that a few hours out for a walk with your photographer is a great way of spending some real quality time together. Plus, you are both dressed up, feeling really good and enjoying the honeymoon feel of the engagement months.
LETTING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER GET TO KNOW YOU
Not only do you get to know your photographer better, it gives them a chance to get to know you both. This is so important before the wedding day as it gives your photographer time to work out how to make you both feel completely at ease as well as how you both work in front of the camera. This ensures no worries on the wedding day, and a better idea of what your photos will be like on the day.
RELIVE YOUR PROPOSAL
During these photo sessions I am all for getting creative. Some couples like the idea of re-creating their proposal story in pictures – which can definitely be done! Why not keep the buzz alive just that little bit longer? Engagement photo sessions are a perfect way to relive the amazing moment she said “yes!” or re-create when he got down on one knee.
